Infrastructure
The VBCF EM Facility at the Vienna Biocenter, where the event will be held, is one of the leading electron microscopy facilities in life sciences in Austria and perfectly equipped to hosting an advanced cryo-electron tomography workshop. Dediciated cryo-instrumentation on site includes a ThermoFisher Scientific Glacios electron microscope, Leica EM GP immersion freezer and high pressure freezers, as well as appropriate image processing capacities. Installation of a ThermoFisher Scientific Titan Krios G4 with Selectris energy filter and Falcon4 direct electron detector was completed in early 2022.
One day of the workshop will take place at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA), located in Maria Gugging, Klosterneuburg, 20 km northwest of Vienna.
ISTA is an international research institute in natural and mathematical sciences committed to performing world-class research, with several scientific service units (SSUs) providing excellent know-how and cutting-edge instrumentation to support research. ISTA’s cryo-EM facility is equipped with a 300 kV Thermo Scientific Krios TEM (including a Volta phase plate, a post-GIF energy filtered Gatan K3, and a Falcon 3 DED), a 200 kV Thermo Scientific Glacios TEM (including a Volta phase plate and Falcon 3 DED) and a Thermo Scientific Aquilos 2 cryo-FIBSEM, including lift-out capabilities. amples can be frozen by high pressure freezing (BalTec HPM010) and by plunge freezing (Leica EM GP2, TFS Vitrobot Mark IV) methods, cryo-correlative light and electron microscopy experiments can be performed on a Leica cryo-CLEM setup.
